The Economic Society of Australia is pleased to invite you to attend the 2012 Eminent Speaker Series.  The Eminent Speaker Series provides a unique opportunity for you to hear from the world’s leading economists in an open forum.

The Economic Society of Australia was founded in 1925, making it one of the oldest professional associations in Australia.  One of the main objectives of the society is to encourage the teaching, study and application of economics and related disciplines in Australia and to encourage the research and public debate of economic questions. To meet this objective, the Economic Society of Australia launched the Eminent Speaker Series in 2010.

In 2012, two Eminent Speakers will participate in a program of speaking commitments during the period 13-27 July 2012.

We are honoured that Professor James Mirrlees and Professor Jagdish Bhagwati are our Eminent Speakers for the 2012 series.

Professor Mirrlees is emeritus Professor of Political Economy at the University of Cambridge, and Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge. He is currently the Distinguished Professor-at-Large of The Chinese University of Hong Kong as well as University of Macau. He is a Nobel Laureate.

Jagdish Bhagwati is senior fellow for international economics at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and University Professor at Columbia University.

We look forward to welcoming you and your colleagues to the 2012 Eminent Speaker Series.
